Endometriosis is a disease that causes pain between menses, painful menses and pain with sex. It is a chronic disease and frequently reoccurs.

Endometriosis occurs because tissue from the uterine lining gets outside the uterus and sticks or implants on surrounding organs. This causes pain and inflammation throughout the month. It occurs in about 1 out of 10 women and is usually diagnosed in women in their 30's.

Endometriosis is diagnosed via laparoscopy, where a scope is placed through the umbilical area and directly visualized in the pelvis. This is the only way to know for sure if endometriosis is present.

Endometriosis, once diagnosed, can be treated surgically or with various medications.
